In modern times, it is widely recognized that aluminum offers greater and more uniform heat transfer in industrial radiators. The traditional brass and copper designs utilize smaller tubes that clog easier, minimize airflow, and restrain the unit’s ability to cool down. Even when comparing aluminum to stainless steel, aluminum is the superior conductor of heat.

Here at IRR, we proudly convert old industrial radiators and heat exchangers to aluminum for more efficient airflow, better cooling, and less clogging. We use our inventory of bar and plate style cores – rated for 400 PSI – to build new and custom oil coolers. Our skillset with aluminum welding means we can repair, recore, and build entirely new aluminum units. We also pride ourselves in owning extensive on-hand inventories of aluminum cores, including bar and plate style units.

Is Aluminum More Expensive? Depending on the application, replacing traditional or steel radiators with aluminum may appear to be a higher cost, but that’s only the initial outlook. For example, it is simply more expensive to extract aluminum for bauxite than to make steel.

However, aluminum is corrosion free and measurably more efficient, boasting an emissivity of around 5 times that of steel. To say that aluminum is a remarkable conductor of heat is a heavy understatement.
